However, the Nobel Committee's selection of Barack Obama raised more questions than it answered - about the selection process and about the panel's intentions, to name a few. Any which way I look at it, this award (verb), is not justified/appropriate at this time.
If Obama's aspirations, eloquence and initial steps helped change the world's perception of the United States - then he's just doing his job, correcting the wrongs of the previous administration. Nothing great there. If his grand vision of a non-nuclear world and sustainable peace across the globe is being rewarded, then he is not the only person of stature with those visions. There have been many who aspired as such, and worked hard and long for the same. Not enough reason, I think, for the award.
Anyway - as mentioned at the outset, a Nobel is a Nobel - however achieved. Congratulations Obama!! Luck is favoring your good intentions. Make the most of it and make a real difference in the world!
Swasti!!
there were lots and lots of expectations from president Obama, a miracle sort of over night transformation from recession effected world into new place was also expected from his "change" quote. people should know that the situation is worse that what we see, it will take lot more time to bring the situation back better than okay. So, its apt to give an award like this to him, for the work he did and as a token of inspiration for what he has to do in the coming time.
ReplyDeleteA Nobel is that kind of award which, once awarded, raises the stature of the recipient, as well as that of the award itself (for adorning such an accomplished recipient). In this case, none of that happened. What more?! Both the award committee and the recipient are having to provide justifications - to 'custom fit the award to the recipient'.
ReplyDeleteI don't mean to neither belittle nor short change Mr. Obama's aspirations, good intentions and influence about and on world stage. If what he did shortened the recession period, Nobel Peace is not the correct award. Economy?! A distant may be!
Any which way we look at it, this turned out to be, in my and many others' view, a future step taken too soon, without some of the milestones being met.
